My Best soup (Edika-Ikong soup)
My name is Edika-Ikong soup and I’m well known as mixed vegetable soup especially to foreigners whom are not from Nigeria, my home country. I hail from the old Cross-Rivers state which is today divided into Cross-Rivers state and Akwa-Ibom state. These two states are located in the southern part of Nigeria known as the Niger-Delta region.
In as much as my other colleagues like Egusi soup, Ogbono soup, Okra soup, Ewedu soup and the rest of them will brag and claim that they are better than me or even more nutritious and delicious, I do not talk much about myself because action speaks louder than words and a taste of me will definitely prove what I’ve just said but just for the sake of those whom are yet to meet and have a taste of me, here is a bit of whom I am. Like I said earlier I’m a Nigerian hence you will be hearing words of Nigerian origin. You can get yourself a Nigerian language translator if you don’t mind, in other to understand me better. Come to think of it my country is a multi-lingua nation with about 590 languages hence the only possible and useful translator that can help you is a human translator from my state (Cross-Rivers or Akwa-Ibom).
My major components includes; Ugwu leave, Water leave, Okazi leave, Beef, Kpomo (Cow skin), Shakki (Cow leg beef), Goat meat and Smoked fish but I will be nothing without the exotic red oil (oil from palm tree) which holds all my components together and gives me a beautiful and bright colour. Most persons especially the lazy ones do not like the first stage of preparing me which involves the slicing and thorough washing of all the leaves and meats, but enjoys the second stage which last for about 3-5 minutes because I’m so tender and in other to retain my nutritional values and all green colours I do not need much heat. Hmmm!!! Come to think of it I’m the only soup that is prepared without the aid of water because the water leave in me contains enough natural water and this makes me really unique. I’m eaten along side with my good friends such as Eba (Garri-processed cassava), Fufu and pounded yam and this makes me even more nutritious as the six classes of food are now complete in me hence I’m a perfect example of a balanced diet. Aside from being rich in nutrition, I am also very rich financially. Remember I come from the Niger-Delta region of my country, the region with the wealth of my nation because of the mineral deposit in my region, and this gets me connected to the president of my country Dr Goodluck Jonathan who is also a Niger-Deltan.
Well it seems I’ve been talking too much but don’t blame me because it’s not my fault that I’ve been made very delicious and rich both in nutrition and financially. As it stands now, the only people who can stand side by side with me are my beloved friends Fried rice and Peacock because we are all beautifully, deliciously and colourfully made........HOPE U COULD HAVE A NICE TASTE OF ME SOMEDAYS AND I CAN’T WAIT FOR YOU TO SHOUT AND SCREAM YUMMY!!!!
