Wisdom is the unveiling of heavenly secrets for earthly triumph. Wisdom is not common sense, it is scriptural sense. In Mathew 7:24 Jesus described a wise man as ??Whosoever heareth these sayings of mine and doeth them ?? So, the journey to wisdom begins with hearing. Proverbs 1:5 also says, ?A wise man will hear?? In other words, a foolish man is one who speaks more than he hears; a fool is full of words (Ecclesiastes 10:14). I want to believe that the reason God made man with two ears and one mouth is so that he can hear more than he speaks. He expects that before you speak once, you should hear twice. That is why most wise men are always slow to speak, they are never in a hurry to air their views, they weigh issues before they speak. So, speaking all the time is not a mark of strength, God gave you two ears as against one mouth, so that your degree of learning can be higher than your speaking. Have you ever thought about the fact that hearing doesn ?t get people into trouble as much as speaking does? The Bible says, ??Let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak ?? (James 1:19). When you meet a man who says, ?I like to speak all my mind?, he is simply exhibiting foolishness. The Bible says, ?A fool uttereth all his mind: but a wise man keepeth it till afterwards ? (Prov 29:11) Hearing is a virtue you must cultivate if you want to walk in wisdom. Even Jesus our perfect example said, ?As I hear so I speak.? He wasn?t speaking any how. As a twelve year old boy, one day His parents were looking for Him and after three days, ??They found him in the temple, sitting in the midst of the doctors, both hearing them, and asking them questions? (Luke 2:46). He was hearing before asking. A foolish man will never ask question. In his pride he pretends to know everything. If you want to become great in life, be a good listener. Those who listen today will have something to speak tomorrow. After Jesus had listened to the doctors as a boy, when He started His ministry and He began to speak, the people were always astonished at His doctrines and answers. Those who don ?t hear well today, can?t give good answers tomorrow. If you want to become a man of answers be a man of good hearing. Don ?t be in a hurry to show people what you know and what you have, hear what they have to say and pick lesions from them. From the wise you learn how to be wise and from the foolish you learn how not to be foolish. You know, if you hear something you don ?t like, you can reprogram your mind to push it aside, but once you speak a word you can ?t collect it back; you can?t un-say what you have said. So, be swift to hear and slow to speak. Even in your prayer time, learn to hear from God rather than speaking all the time.
