Trinidad the very first country to receive Ethiopian Orthodox Faith :)))
Trinidad and Tobago was one of the first country in the caribbean outside Africa and Jerusalem to receive the Ethiopian Orthodox Church. The Church arrived in Trinidad on 16th December 1952 and now exists also in Guyana, Barbados, Jamaica, Bermuda, Martinique, several North American states, Canada, Germany, Sweden and South Africa. In Trinidad and Tobago [there are] nine parishes: Arouca, Port of Spain, San Fernando, Sangre Grande, Mayaro, Point Fortin, Claxton Bay, Siparia, and Scarborough -Tobago.
The Ethiopian Orthodox Church is therefore the oldest Christian Church in the world. The foundation of her faith, teachings and order, is based upon the teachings of the Apostles and the 318 Nicene church Fathers, that is the belief in One God; The Father, The Son and The Holy Spirit.
The Ethiopian Orthodox Church is one of the five Oriental Orthodox Churches. It is also one of the founding members of the World Council of Churches and the All African Conference of Churches. In our Archdiocese of the Caribbean and Latin America, it is a member of the Caribbean Conference of Churches. In Trinidad and Tobago, it is a member of the Inter-Religious Organisation.
His Grace, Abuna Thaddaeus, a native of Ethiopia, is the Archbishop of the Caribbean and Latin America with his seat in Trinidad and Tobago. Worthy of note is the state visit of His Imperial Majesty, Haile Selassie to Trinidad, in April 1966 and of The Patriarch of Ethiopia, His Holiness, Dr. Abuna Paulos in August 1995
The Ethiopian Orthodox Church is a holy universal apostolic Church, Christianity having reached Ethiopia in 34 AD. The Acts of the Apostles (8:26-40) relate the baptism of the Ethiopian eunuch (who was the Minister of Finance) of Queen Candace by Philip. Having spread from the Courts to the people. Christianity became the official religion in the country around 332 AD. Prior to this, Ethiopia practised Judaism which was brought there by the Queen of Sheba (1st Kings 10:1-13)
