Laiye / DJ KLEM ft. Iye

Play / DL → ( 18284 plays)

Nigerian born Clement “DJ KLEM” Kponu has been around for a bit. Starting out with drum lessons (which he never actually finished), his love for music started at an early age with singing every song (and every Ad) on the radio and the inevitable children’s choir in church. He quickly started to pick interest in the keyboard and essentially taught himself how to play(with a few pointers here and there of course). Soon after, the vocalist in him emerged in the guise of the Christian singing group “turning point” which he joined in the late 90’s (yeah, it’s been that long) quickly rising to the “office”of “producer”. In 2002, college came calling and he was admitted into the prestigious University of Ibadan to study Electrical Engineering. It was there that he discovered the world of computer based production and immediately started schooling himself on that. A few years later he hooked up with Nigerian producer Alexander Yangs to form the production duo Beatworx and they went on to produce music for the likes of Freestyle, Kel, Jethro and TV station Soundcity. Now a graduate, KLEM now works as an independent producer and is part of the infamous Knighthouse team in Lagos, Nigeria. With recent songs produced for some of Nigeria’s finest artists including Mode 9, Mo’Cheddah, Rooftop MC’s, VECtor, EVA and Wizkid on the Knighthouse Street Scriptures Vol. 1 as well as upcoming releases for a plethora of others, his star is only just beginning to rise. He was one of the 60 talented musicians and creative minds at the Red Bull Music Academy in London in February 2010. These days, he keeps himself busy back home at Knighthouse while finishing plans to launch his new imprint “Afrotronikk”. Expect more big tunes from this dude.
