During the 11 month period of me banking with TD Bank, my accounts remained in good standing. But to my surprise, on January 28th 2011, I received a call from my branch of the bank (Bergenfield NJ) that my account is scheduled to be closed for reasons unknown to me. I called the customers service department on February 7th 2011 for an explanation as to why my account is scheduled to be closed. I was advised to speak with the branch directly. I was told that the decision to close my account is solely the branch?s decision, surprisingly; I was at the branch on February 8th 2011 and was told that the decision to closing my account came from the back office. What the back office is I don?t know. Anyway no one was willing to tell me why my account was closed with immediate effect. As per my conversation with the branch manager, she too could only say she was told to close my account and offered no explanation to me other than to expect a phone call from who ever made this decision. I believe it is within my right to know why my account was closed, or might I be one of a few customer?s that TD Bank is profiling for doing business with people in Nigeria. My reason for saying this is because I know a few people that had their accounts closed in the same way and manner my account was closed. Eventually, I received a call from the so called back office, and was told that TD Bank has a program that is called ?get to know your customers,? and that an investigator was sent to my place of business. Upon doing so, they supposedly found my office was an abandoned building. This is not true, because I have a legitimate business registered by the state of New Jersey. Furthermore, my place of business has a management of staff available from 8:00a.m. to 4.30 p.m. Monday through Friday. TD Bank not only labeled me a fraud, they labeled my business as a fraud too. I went and filed a complaint against TD Bank with the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC), but, my complaint fell on deaf ears. This is why am calling on all Nigerians/ people that had an experience of this kind of profiling levied against them, to please stand up for you rights. We need to stand up to TD bank and say enough is enough. We are hard working citizens/residents of the United States, and we will not stand for any kind of profiling. Please do not sit back and say the bank has a right to close accounts. Yes, the bank does have a right to close an account, but, it has to be with merit. If you are a part of this injustice please let me hear from you. ?United we stand, divided we fall.? Please let us stand united on this issue. << Back to Blogs | Post a comment << Back to Blogs Comments:~ 14 years ago
